I recently have become acquainted with Austrian organic winery HERIST. I want to praise this “klein aber fein” (small but exquisite) winery from southern Burgenland in the area of Rechnitz. Their vineyards are located in strategically favourable areas for the various grape varieties they grow to take full advantage of the characteristics of the local soil and weather conditions to created the best possible wines. This unique mix of soil and weather allows Dieter Herist, the wine master, to create these quality but moderately priced assortment of fine organic wines. It should be noted, that recently the HERIST winery won wide praise at the international wine fair award in Karlsruhe where they were awarded 4,5 out of 5 stars for the Rosé. As Goethe is quoted: “Life is to short to drink bad wine” so I highly recommend that you get to know this winery and their assortment of fine reds and whites. My personal favourites are the white “Welschriesling Alte Reben” and the fine red "Schiefer, Quarz and Kalk".
